Here are some helpful TIPS to get you started on your relocation journey:

Certificate of Occupancy (CO) is necessary for various scenarios:

  • Initial Use: For the first use of land or a building.
  • Change of Use: When the intended use of land or a building change.
  • Tenant Change: If there’s a change of tenant on an existing CO.
  • Floor Area Modification: When an existing use increases or decreases floor area.

Obtaining a CO:

  • Local Authority: Obtain your CO from your Municipality’s Building Inspection office.
  • Local Requirements: Keep in mind that some cities or counties may not require a CO.

Important Considerations for Utility Services:

  • Meter Accessibility: For new construction or meter installations, ensure the meter base is accessible to the technician. If not, the order may be canceled, and a trip fee may be charged by the Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU).
  • City Inspection: If you request electricity service before the city inspection is complete, the order will be on hold for 20 days. If the inspection isn’t finalized within this period, the order will be cancelled, and you’ll need to resubmit it with the TDSP.
  • Tenant Base Inspection Permit: Some cities may require a Tenant Base Inspection Permit before energizing a premise.
  • Permit Name Match: The permit name must match the customer’s name or contact name provided in the Move-In (MVI) transaction.
